Funny how life doesn’t go in a straight line. Ever notice that?
Lately I’ve been “off-road” for a while. It’s all good, but blogging fell off the bus.
Part of my journey has been making a major change in my life around the way I eat. I’ve long known I had an allergy to wheat, but I was in denial. I told myself it was just an “intolerance,” even though I was breaking out in hives almost every day.
Finally I decided to buy a Vita-Mix blender and start moving more toward a raw food, non-processed diet. I did a five-day smoothie challenge and when I re-introduced wheat into my diet the signs were incontrovertible. I’m really, really allergic to wheat.
So, for the past few months I’ve been learning how to buy, cook and eat gluten free. It’s kind of consumed my attention of late.
But now I’m in a routine and I can’t say enough about how much better I feel! No more hives. No more indigestion. Lots more energy.
I still do a green smoothie every day and hubby is even sharing one with me. He who says he really doesn’t like fruit that much. Hee hee. I slip in bananas and oranges when he isn’t looking and he doesn’t even notice (as long as there are his favorites in there like raspberries or pineapple).
I’ve also taken a detour with my work. More like an early summer vacation. I just needed a break to plant the garden, read a few books, play with the dogs and learn some new things. I also volunteered to chair the advertising and promotion committee for our annual artists’ studio tour here in Prescott, which is a lot of work. But the real work is in the early organizing and with the help of my wonderful committee we’re almost done. Now it’s just implementing the plan as the deadlines come up.
So I guess I’m back. Almost. We head for Chicago to visit our daughter and her family for a week this Friday. Spending time with the grandboys at the lake house will probably take precedence over blogging, as, in my book, it should. Then I’ll really be back!

Great job for being able to change the way you eat! My husband and I are right there with you. Never thought I could go without my breadsticks and noodles, but now I have found rice noodles and other foods. Glad you are feeling better!
I miss it less and less. Trying to eat fewer grains overall but I do crave a GF piazza now and then or some quinoa pasts. Rush’s GF bread is pretty good when I’ve just got to have a piece of toast!
We’re lucky that now even restaurants are beginning to respond with GF choices.
Making your body feel better and taking a break to renew your spirit is exciting. I can’t wait to see what you make after all that time spent in the garden-the best place for creativity and inspiration.
I’m with you on the gluten-free diet.
I’m with you on the take-a-break from blogging.
I’m with you on read books/plant the garden.
These “detours” will put you on the right road!
